Safety Training

EHSREM offers a variety of safety training topics that are available to Texas State University faculty, staff, and students. 

In-Person Trainings

Some trainings are only offered through in-person, instructor led training. The training time varies from approximately 1 hour to 8 hours, depending upon the topic. Topics may include a written evaluation, practical evaluation, or both. The table below provides a listing of topics available for training and the typical amount of time required. Online Canvas Training

To register for an online Canvas training course, select the safety training that you are interested in from the list below. The requests are reviewed and entered by 9:00 A.M. on a daily basis Monday thru Friday. Once you are granted access to the safety training, you will receive an automatic notification from Canvas informing you that you have been granted access to the training. If you have not received the notification, contact our office at 512-245-3616 to let us know.  


Online SAP Training

Trainings that are required to be completed on an annual basis are administered online through the SAP and Success Factors Learning portal. Training requirements are based on employee positions. 

  • Good Housekeeping and Pollution Prevention (GH & PP)
  • Hazard Communication
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE)
  • Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC)
  • Student Worker Safety

  • Follow the steps below for accessing training through the SAP Portal.

    1. Go to www.txstate.edu. Select "Faculty & Staff" on the top right side of your screen.
    2. Select the "SAP Portal" icon.
    3. Log in to the SAP Portal using your NetID and Password (2-Step Login).
    4. Click "General Business Apps" at the top of your screen.
    5. Select the third white box titled "Training and Development."
    6. Click the "Risk Management" link under Course Catalog on the left side of your screen.
    7. Select the training you are required to complete (Tip: The name of the training is listed on the email you received).
    8. Under the "Book" section of this page, select your current personnel assignment number from the drop down list.
    9. Click the blue and yellow button labeled "Book this Course."
    10. After booking the course, scroll down and click the blue and yellow button labeled "Start Course Now."
    11. Important: Do not click the link under the "Attainable Qualifications" section of the page. This is a dead end.

    After clicking "Start Course Now," a new window will open displaying Course Instructions. Please read the instructions carefully. You may view chapters in any order; however, you must view all pages and pass the test with a score of 100%. All pages must have a purple check mark when viewed in the table of Contents, including the Final Instructions page.

    Once you have passed the test, the training homepage will automatically refresh and will display a note that you have completed the training, Within 24 hours, you will receive confirmation via email that you have completed this training.

    Note: If you must complete more than one training for your job, you must follow these instructions for each required training.

  • Internet Explorer (with Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader) is the recommended and supported browser. Mozilla Firefox may be compatible. Other internet browsers are not guaranteed to work.

  • You have accidentally clicked a link under "Attainable Qualifications." To back out of this section, follow the steps below.

    1. In the SAP Training and Development App, click the "Risk Management" link under Course Catalog on the left side of your screen.
    2. Select the training you are required to complete (Tip: The name of the training is listed on the email you received).
    3. Under the "Book" section of this page, select your current personnel assignment number from the drop down list.
    4. Click the blue and yellow button labeled "Book this Course."
    5. After booking the course, scroll down and click the blue and yellow button labeled "Start Course Now."
    6. Important: Do not click the link under the "Attainable Qualifications" section of the page. This is a dead end.

     

  • Yes. If you (or your employee) need a training requirement removed from a position, this is possible. Training requirements are tied to job position numbers, not individual employees. When an employee fills a vacant position, the employee will be required to complete the training(s) associated with that job position number. Training requirements can be removed from job positions only if the job duties within the position have changed, no longer requiring specific trainings.

    To add or remove a training requirement from a job position number, please complete the SAP Training Request Form and email to ehsrem@txstate.edu for approval. For further clarification on the process please review the documents below.
