X-Ray Equipment
X-Ray equipment safety is the responsibility of all faculty, staff, and students who are directly or indirectly involved in the use of radioisotopes or radiation producing devices.
Training
The process to get authorization to operate x-ray equipment in a Texas State University laboratory without the direct supervision of someone already authorized to use the equipment is a five step process.
- Fundamentals: Request access to the training and complete the self study of the X-Ray Operator Training Guide. This includes passing a 20 question test with a minimum score of 70%. There are two tests, but only one needs to be completed with a satisfactory score.
- Videos: Schedule a time to visit the Smith House (EHSREM Office) to view 2 safety videos with a total watch time of approximately 30 minutes.
- Hands-On Training: Use the training documentation card to complete three tasks with your principal investigator. These tasks include safety items, protocols, and hazards. the card should then be signed and dated by the individual who performs the hands-on training.
- Required Reading: Sign-off on the card confirming you have read the specified sections of the Texas State's Radiation Safety Manual.
- Acknowledgement: The final sign-off is your signature acknowledging you have been trained on the x-ray device using the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and that you have reviewed the SOP for the specific devices that you will be using.
Important
When you have completed the training documentation card, return it to EHSREM as soon as possible so that it can be documented that you have completed the training. Once the training has been documented, you are authorized to operate the designated equipment without the direct supervision of someone else who is already authorized to use the equipment.
